A Little Harvest of Potatoes!

Just over three or four months back, I found five little potatoes left over in the kitchen which had sprouted into plants. Rather than throw them into the trash, I took them out into the garden, made shallow pits for each, laid them in, and covered loosely with soil.

Soon, the plants came up. We fed them with the vegetable waste from the kitchen and watered daily. Yesterday, I noticed that the plants were turning yellow and pulled them out. Lo! A little basket of fresh, organic potatoes.

At Sharanyam, we grow a sizable amount of fruits and vegetables for the table. If one can spare a few minutes for a bit of gardening, every day, the earth gives back not just fresh, delicious produce, but also good health, and a happier frame of mind!
