Peacocks, our national birds, were not to be seen in Wayanad, until a few years ago. They started coming in small numbers from the Deccan Plateau, and as the climate changed, large flocks flew in. Every day, we have nearly a dozen birds strutting about our garden.

Not a single snake is to be seen, as they make a quick dinner of even the poisonous serpents.

These are mostly young birds, perhaps a year or two of age. Their plumage is yet to grow to its full glory, but the colors are starting to deepen as they approach puberty.
